So this song is biographical about the band playing show to show at bars, and getting caught up in the drinking and smoking that goes along with it. Saranac is a beer made in Utica Ny where some of the guys in the band are from and is a favorite throughout upstate NY where they played for years. A guarantee is a flat fee for playing at the bar and points on the door are a percentage of the cover paid by a customer. Side note the title of this song is also the name of the group of sober people who attend there shows. |

I actually saw the Bosstones when I was nineteen and they played this and I did lose my wallet at that show :( it’s still a great memory, crowdsurfing, getting on stage and Dicky embracing me and asking me if I was alright! To me this song is all about redemption from heartache... Speaking as someone who has actively code to both participate and not in regular society, there has been not many things more romantic than the idea of “running away and joining the circus...” So the line “one day I’ll burn this whole place down when the circus comes to town” speaks to me on a very deep level; To me I hear it as “fuck this shit and fuck you, I’m going where I can be myself” Burn all your bridges and leave with the circus... such a beautiful heartwrenching song |
