| Cradle of Filth – Gabrielle Lyrics | 8 years ago |

I am not native english speaker, so please correct me if I am wrong. It seems the song has two interpretations on purpose - Gabrielle is either lost lover or even dead (which is pretty similiar situation for writing a poem). There is an indication of prostitution too, but I think she is simply dead :/ "Whose beauty fostered poets" => why past tense? "Whose laugh like silver belts thawed...." => why past tense? "...once you peddled secrets.." => indication of prostitution or (as I imagine) she was in open coffin? "Spare your hissing sentiments For her fee welts more than thine." There is another person (persons) beside Gabrielle. Sentiments = funeral condolences? "Lest her memory dissolve." => obviously. "Buried inside Where she's all but mine Save for those that dine Oh her, on her perfect carcass." => decomposition in a grave. "...blind from spying her In the arms of others." He cant accept her death, seeing her everywhere... (not sure here). That is all. I hope (if she is dead) it was not he who killed her :O |
