| Jamie Cullum – Gran Torino Lyrics | 8 years ago |

I wrote this from far far away East Asia, a small island country Taiwan. That’s the power of great music, isn’t it. I have loved Clint Eastwood’s later movies for a long long time, and always admired his music for his films. But “Gran Torino” is not just something you fall in love with. It is like you got struck, instantly, by a hard blow of regretfulness, a unexpected reminder of those beautiful values you once treasured dearly but you gave up along the way, because you compromised to the commonness, or you just forgot somewhere in the past. Other than the solemnly touching melody (I think of it as the soul of a song), the great beauty of the lyrics (as well as the film itself) lies in the insistence of both tenderness and strength, of being gentle and also being firm. I guess guys understand the coexistence of such conflicting emotions best through their beloved vehicles! Stand to your principles, accept its bitter consequences. Dignity never come lightly. So difficult. Therefore, so beautiful. |
