It's about mental health, and how society sees people who have mental health issues as weak, whereas they're some of the strongest people around. It plays with Margot Kidder's bi-polar and likens her episodes (I assume manic) of her being a super hero. People going through manic episodes of bi-polar can be hyper-focussed on achieving a certain goal (although not always a constructive one) which could be seen as a 'superhuman effort' which 'largely goes unrewarded'. I really love this song, there's so many interpretations but I think that is it. |
