I believe this song is about the sick horrors of necrophilia. "When life leaves you high and dry" (a metaphor for death) "I'll be at your door" (taking away the body) "Shut down the city lights" (metaphor for hiding his horrible sin from everyone) "When enemies are at your door I'll carry you" (he will hide the body from the cops or medical examiners look for it) "When you fall like a statue" (rigor mortis stiffens the body after death, much like a statue) "I'll share your suffering to make you well" (do I really need to explain this part?) "Never sleep alone" (he sleeps with the body) "Love you long after you're gone" (gone=dead, love in the very literal sense) "Like a drum baby don't stop beating" (he is recalling the last moments before her passing) "My heart never stops beating for you" (even though she is dead, he feels that she lives on through him) It's a sick, horrible song. |
