30 Seconds to Mars – Hurricane Lyrics 8 years ago
@[ubba:23872] I am not sure if it's about a particular conflict, but I agree (also believe) that this is about war/faith and what is right/wrong and kind of a sad wondering about the necessity of all these conflicts.

Seems a bit like some thoughts/feelings/experiences of a soldier/sb in war.

No matter how many times that you told me you wanted to leave
No matter how many breaths that you took
You still couldn't breathe
No matter how many nights did you lie
Wide awake to the sound of the poison rain
Where did you go?
Where did you go?
Where did you go?

This seems like a part about trying to escape something you can, like a military duty, can't breathe anxiety/ sandy air/explosions - lie wide awake to the sound of the poison rain seems like being under heavy fire or some bombing.
Where did you go? God perhaps?

Tell me, would you kill
To save a life?
Tell me, would you kill
To prove you're right?
Crash, crash
Burn
Let it all burn
This hurricane’s chasing us all underground

Kill to save a life. Perhaps questioning if it is "so right to kill these "bad people"" cuz you are protecting you country right? Destroying some houses, killing people because he/she/they are told to do sou, cuz it's "right" but the person doing it, doesn't quite feel like it perhaps and feels a bit dead inside.

Still not sure what the Hurricane is, but point is - it's a game where we all lose.

No matter how many deaths I die, I will never forget
No matter how many lies I live, I will never regret
There is a fire inside of this heart
A riot about to explode into flames
Where is your God?
Where is your God?
Where is your God?

Could be both he is pointing out to reincarnation but also that he(soldier) will never forget all the people he has killed and that each time he dies with them. A fire burning his heart cuz its a horrible pain, as if you were killing yourself in a way.

The promises we made were not enough
(Never play this game again)
The prayers that we had prayed were like a drug
(Never gonna help me here)
The secrets that we sold were never known
(Never sing a song a second time)
The love we had
The love we had
We had to let it go
(Never giving in again, never giving in again)

not sure about this part, but maybe you can figure it out in this scenario I've laid out.
Perhaps about hoping the war would not happen again and we were all lead to believe this wont happen again and started being all fine and feel and live life with love, but again we were thrown into this situation where we must "let go of the love" and embrace hell again.

Do you really want?
(Oh, oh, woah)
Do you really want me?
(Oh, oh, woah)
Do you really want me dead?
(Oh, oh, woah)
Or alive to torture for my sins?

Do you really want?
(Oh, oh, woah)
Do you really want me?
(Oh, oh, woah)
Do you really want me dead?
(Oh, oh, woah)
Or alive to live the lie?

it's about wondering if this is really wanted from him (by God? the state? ) to be tortured for his sins (killing people) in life or death (reincarnation/afterlife)

live a lie...pretend it's fighting for something worth killing for.
