| Neutral Milk Hotel – Where You'll Find Me Now Lyrics | 5 years ago |
| A friend once told me, "Spite is the most powerful human emotion." I listened to this song several times tonight, and I don't think it's apologetic. I think it's spiteful. I actually appreciate it more now. The song opens with a description of the ex?-gf lambasting him with a silvery tongue, for having a silver tongue himself. I think he's calling her a hypocrite in this song, and providing quite a sarcastic response to her excoriation. | |

This is one of the most underrated songs in history. The tune is terrific, which, of course, matters more than anything. But the message. And maybe I'm over-analyzing the point. It's a guy born in a middle-class family. Has hopes. His corporate overlords overtake him every step of the way. He can't get anywhere. Just slaving away. They mock him for not being able to progress. His kids go to another country where there's more promise. And the chorus becomes apologetic to Arthur. Corporate interests screwed you over, you were right all along. |
