I think this song is about a first time users decent into full-blown addiction. "Charlie got a band in his hand, A rubber loop," I interpret this as being a loop to tie your arm off with. "Says, I'm the man you really want So just act natural" I think that this part is about a dealer telling him, "yes, it's really me, act natural." "Don't try to tell me your bullshit scheme Because I have no idea what you mean No idea" I think this line is from a users point of view, he doesn't want to hear him try to talk him into it, and he's not going to listen, he just wants to do it. "I'm just trying to sleep I've heard quite enough" He just wants to nod off already and enjoy his high. "Just to listen is really tough Because you're on it all the time" I think this is from a non-user friends' point of view saying it's hard to listen to him speak when he's high and he can't hardly understand him. "Hearing the bells, it's 9 a.m. You better wake up your friend Before he won't wake up anymore" I think this is someone telling the non-user friend to wake up the user, who may have shot up too much. "Because I got to split, I'm late to leave He gave me nothing but grief" This is the friends response, all he did was worry about his friend and his addiction. "And some bullshit story only I would believe I've heard quite enough I heard quite enough" Every addict says what they think the person they're talking to wants to hear, and people who care generally eat it up, and now the friend is seeing that it was all bullshit every time he told the same story. "You're on it all the time You're on it all the time You're on it all the time And you're full of it all the time" These lines go without saying. |
