What I hear this song to be about is Tom’s struggle with heroin. Sounds like him and his buddy pulling an all nighter somewhere in the mnts or the desert and needing to get back to LA to score one more time, unfortunately. Sounds like maybe he had been wanting to quit using or even did quit but had to come running back. I’m not sure about the meaning of the ranger with the burning eyes but the chambermaid (drug dealer) was awakened and surprised to see him again thinking he was done using but of course let him in anyway. I think it’s the drug who is saying “hey baby your gonna be alright if you believe in me”. Then him and his buddy are off tripping around, he was drunk and Tom was sick, (needing a fix) and end up in a barroom fight. Then when it’s all said and done he’s just sick and tired of being tired and it’s back to trying to quit again. IDK, I just can relate I guess. I might be way off but that’s my interpretation. |
