To me, this is a song not about two lovers, but two former lovers. "Hope dangles on a string Like slow-spinning redemption Winding in and winding out" Hope means our main character wants to be with his former love, but as we see moving forward in the song, she has a "diamond in her ring" which shows she's getting married to someone that isn't him. The chorus is a reflection of the breakup between them. He says he's flawed, selfish and wrong, something he always knew and she left him for it, although she saw his great potential. Now, he sees everything great about him with someone new. The bridge: "So turn up the corners of your lips Part them and feel my fingertips Trace the moment, fall forever Defense is paper thin Just one touch and I'd be in too deep now To ever swim against the current" She's sad she's not with him anymore, but he says to look on the positive of things. Without each other, they wouldn't become the people they are now. He tells her to smile (turn up the corners of your lips) and they share an intimate moment. Not fully romantic, or sexual, but clearly they still have feelings for each other. If she makes a move, he'll fall and swim against the current he has swam in with his new love. |

I'm seriously gonna reply to comments over 16 years old. This song is more than a protest against corporate religion. It's a message to those who believe in organized religion, that salvation comes through deeds, such as giving money and belittling sinners, where the truth is salvation only comes from forgiveness and repent, which is the hard truth, which is the "God you dont wanna see" |

| Obviously this song has a deeper meaning to it. The boner represents the government and how they fuck with us! /s | |

Faith Alone's meaning tells us the only thing able to save us as individuals is us. It's me, and me alone, or you, and you alone. Faith doesn't save. Practically the moral of the story is to throw away your Nietzsche, your Socrates and your gods, and find an answer for yourself. |
