David Bowie – Ashes to Ashes Lyrics 8 years ago
@[DMH:23545] Hard for a strung out junkie to carry on a conversation, so the axe to break the ice may refer to a downer so he can appear normal to a record producer or a love interest. He's too high to converse intelligently or even to sound sauve and has an immediate need to come down.

@[gren:23544] Maybe little green men fly around in little green wheels? Lots of wheel shaped alien craft out there, so imagine a junkie astronaut who is used to seeing UFOs saying Oh no, not again. It's bad enough being high in space, but being high and in danger is probably not a good thing.

The character I find interesting in the song is the Action Man. From a Ground Control space mission scenario you'd thing the Action Man might be the chief Ground Control officer and you can almost hear him addressing some distant astronaut with an early morning greeting ""I'm happy, hope you're happy too" basically letting the astronaut know it's time to wake up and get to work, but since it is going out over every major t.v. network it has to sound light hearted and jovial. In the life of a Pop star the action man is either a high ranking record producer who needs to meet a deadline and just want the star cleaned up and sober enough to function so the record can be cut. He may even send in a specialist aka the REAL action man who gives the star a hit of his morning boost. Just enough mainlined to help him function and be sociable. ""I'm happy, hope you're happy too"... well by golly after getting my fix I suppose I am once again most happy to get a pick me up from this crash! And the Action man is happy because he charges a premium price for house calls which the Record Label is also happy to pay.
