I think this song speaks about a long distance relationship, and how complicated is to endure the hardships and sadness if your loved one has gone away probably forever. The character from the song is calling and trying to listen for an answer back but the person he longs for has already moved on or is probably too busy forgetting him in the middle of everything. Still he is sure of what he feels, and he's not ashamed of holding her close in his heart even thought he doesn't know what she has been up to cause the truth is in the dark. Hiding from an enemy as he explains he's well aware his feelings could turn into hatred or resentment and he's at the bottom of his mental state, crushed by the overwhelming weight of reality, not even knowing where he is in his life and wishing to be received in her arms. I think the chain in this song is not love itself but the uncertainty of affection by a person that has gone far away both physically and emotionally. |
