Cult of Luna – A Greater Call Lyrics 8 years ago
This song is clearly about leaving this planet behind to find a new home.

"We leave, Upward", they are flying, going up, away from our atmosphere. Then they make a reference to Star Wars and 2001 in "A new hope, an odissey".

Further, they explain why do we need to leave:

Underneath
The world left behind is dying
As we escape gravity

Our world is dying, I suppose because of climate changes and man made destruction, so they need to find a new place to live. Julie Christmas' vocals (We are not conquerors, we float with the tide) make it clear that this travel is not motivated by the desire to explore and conquer worlds for us, but to find a new place currently unknown (so we float throughout the space with the tide).

The notion of fleeing Earth to ensure the survival of mankind is explained further with the last verses ("it's a quest for survival past all known frontiers"). They leave "with the sun at our backs", saying goodbye to this galaxy and "embrace darkness" so we "reach the infinite".

They don't know if they'll succeed, but they must do it anyway, hence "there's no room for fear". Such a mission, leaving our galaxy to find a new home, is probably regarded as suicidal, one last resort to save our species, as evidenced in "A greater call / A sacrifice for the benefit of all".
