I believe Tom is describing a relationship that was very special to him. The relationship was with a girl that was "too good" for him. A girl that, at the time, he couldn't believe was going out with him. Despite how special their relationship was (at least to him), she broke up with him and he can't believe how fast (and complete), her moving on from him was. He sees himself as the loser. One who was lucky to have had her for a short period of time. |
