Dark Tranquillity – One Thought Lyrics 6 years ago
It could be only about the media, but I can see traces of a broader critique. The verse "One thought bringing it down, original sinners" seems to refer to "the original sin of humanity", that is, to eat from the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, [1] which suggests that the concept of the lyrics is actually a criticism of the a denial of the acquisition of knowledge that some interpretations of the Christian religion have as a doctrine, which may also extend to the false knowledge that many other religions represent in general.

The denial of knowledge is what keeps the faithful ignorant and dependent of religion. There is a reference to this in this verse:

"Has it come to this
Enjoying things by proxy
Live through others, just die like the rest"

... which is exactly what most religions do, makes you dependent on a "guide" who theoretically has the wisdom of life and will help you, but with that you don't live your own life, which on the other hand links to the other interpretation of the role of the media, which in this sense has the same effect.

This interpretation is confirmed by other verses such as:
"Insufficient facts
Make up for a frail foundation"

Which is one aspect of modern life, people always know only part of reality, do not have a broader view, and this leaves a person's intellectual foundation fragile.

In the end the lyrics seem to give us an incentive to "dare to know", losing our fear of the unknown:

"This tyranny of fear, a stranglehold on us
Stronger day by day time to turn it off"

In this case the lyrics message could be summarized in one sentence:
"Ignorance is not a virtue"
