Breton – Got Well Soon Lyrics 8 years ago
I think this song is about those that find fame, or as this fits into the story of life is strange, the pretentious teens who assume the authority of status through the social club vortex, as this song plays during the party scene at the school pool. The bridge tells all, how some people make us climb the walls with their aura, how they just grate the nerves with their arrogance, and bore us to death with their superficial front. But i also think it is the frustration of the artist meeting people like this in the entertainment business, where superficial traits are lauded and propped up at the expense of some really deep and talented songwriting. So everyone famous starts to look a lot like the members of the vortex club, not down to earth, snobbish, and reaking of self centered airs. They have not grown out of their adolescent need for attention grabbing, and have not grown artistically to the point of dispensing wisdom, they are just on the surface, shallow, fake.

José González – Crosses Lyrics 8 years ago
The previously up-voted comment is pretty close to my thoughts on it, but i think it is more about the writer seeing everyone carrying burdens of being broken, everywhere you look everyone seems to carry these burdens, and it can be overwhelming. His commentary on it has to do with the pat answer we get from those who seem to have it together, that they can just magically fix our burdens by casting the spell of light on our shadows. but the truth is ignoring it wont make it go away, just waving a magic wand wont fix it, and oddly, among a sea of people, one is helpless because everyone else has issues too. So how do we work through these things if we are all staring at each other knowing their burdens are just as heavy as ours and their scars are just as deep? It is a plea for help, real help, but also the feeling of powerlessness that pervades this song. It asks a question that we should examine thoroughly. How can we help each other heal and make those burdens lighter when wishing it all away is not the answer?

Lanterns on the Lake – Through The Cellar Door Lyrics 8 years ago
I have been listening to the sounds from the Life is strange series for a while now, and each one of them unfolds and has a meaning of their own separate from the story, but fits well to the theme.

This song is epic, exhilerating, celebratory, positive, and deep all at once. It's one is about the awakening of humanity, the realization that the individual has power, no longer subservient to the constructs of the world around us, and this realization is pulsing, the throb of a heart beat punctuated by the heavy drums throughout the song.

This individual has woken up, expanded their mind to the possibilities outside the cages we have allowed ourselves to be put in, including the internet, where discussion is fine, but often we are trapped in it and don't live outside that realm. It's a call to something greater in life, to reconnecting with those around us, and being involved in something greater than self. The shame is when we ignore the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our fellow common man (and yes woman), because truly history is on our side at this moment, and has been for a while now. We just have to know when and where to make a difference. Some things are noble, and some things are futile, knowing that difference is the key. The song and it's energy begs us to entertain our better angels, who will answer the call? Are you one of us? Will you carry the torch? Will you let your light shine from within to be a force for good? Will you be a creature driven by impulse? Or a creator in league with others who are creators?

Local Natives – Mt. Washington Lyrics 8 years ago
To understand songs these days, one has to look through the eyes of an artist, from their perspective. Not everything is about sex, drugs or exes, not every song is about a damaged soul.

So lets broaden our perspective a little and try to look at this from the artistic side. faces stained on the ceiling, whether in a shelter or a cathedral, seems to speak to me about the faces painted in frescoes that never really look you in the eye. And the lyricist says as much that there is no eye contact, it is empty. It is saying "i don't have to see you right now" so this is in reference to all those who are invisible to the people who do everything by the book, who fit in perfectly with soceital norms. They dont have to see the homeless, they dont have to see the misfits, because their religion or social status are more important, not to be soiled... they look away rather than face the ugly underbelly of the world around them.

the second stanza is an indictment, that looking away, or trying to bury something doesnt make it go away, it is still there. Avoiding something is not going to make it disappear. It just makes us dirtier. So the suggestion is to let it out in the open, so it is not hiding under the rug, and deal with it, be honest and human.

The third stanza is about the summer goddess, the symbol of america, lady liberty, looking just as empty as the frecoes on the ceiling, and the song writer is telling her to speak for us, that we don't have to see the empire. we don't have to look at them either, because they have become irrelevant, they dont control us, and two can play that game, so if they ignore us as a dirty secret, we can ignore them too, their laws mean nothing, their crooked money means nothing... and that is not necessarily saying to revolt, but ignore them, just mind our own business and ignore them... we have much more important and better things to do than try and gain their attention, we have a duty to be real to each other, to win our humanity back... before it is too late...
