| Martha and the Muffins – Swimming Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite 80's songs, back in a time when we all had time on our hands (in my perception, anyway, which is why the song works for me). I sense the silence of the situation, of a couple not sure they are yet calling themselves a couple. And so with the silence comes the heightened sensation of the world around, and it's almost as if the singer is looking for the answer in the hubbub around him, but in the end has "no idea at all." And the "let's call it swimming" line calls to mind the line from "The Graduate" where someone asks Hoffman what he's going to do next, meaning in his life, and Hoffman answers he's going upstairs (and then ends up in the pool). | |
