Counting Crows – Perfect Blue Buildings Lyrics 8 years ago
I think the song definitely is about heroin addiction. (A.K.A "oblivion") A state of being unaware, like death. The problem is he is alive & living, but under the enslavement of his addiction to heroin.

So he struggles in the paradox of being alive human being only physically. Because being fixed into oblivion daily. He there feels a dead man unable to feel alive and consequently he is unable to exert action into living his life. So he exist in this limbo paradoxical state.

It is a sad, empty & excruciating existence. And, a never ending vicious circle.
This song is unique and Adam has captivated the essence of the experience & meaning. The profound sadness that will pull at your heart strings deeply.

Bright Eyes – Something Vague Lyrics 8 years ago
I'm new at this. Sometimes I suck at explaining.
So, bear with me please?

My Interpretation ........
This song depicts despair, sorrow, grief, alienation and hopelessness.

Now and again
It seems worse than it is
But mostly the view is accurate
You see your breath in the air
As you climb up the stairs
To that coffin you call your apartment
And you sink in your chair
Brush the snow from your hair
And drink the cold away
You're not really sure
What you're doing this for
But you need something to fill up the days
A few more hours........

He opens with awareness of his perception of his troubled life, that he sometimes may exaggerate things and make it seem worse than it actually is.
But, concludes there is still sufficient reason for him to be feeling the way he does.

He feels (dying) as if he has no meaning to push forward in life because he does not feel alive. He feels only sorrow, grief, emptiness, a state of complete suffering with no
hope of resolve because he feels he is alone & with no one to help him. He feels that is cold and uncaring towards his suffering.

That has become the "normal" to his daily life.
So he merely just drags himself through each day with sleep and drinking
being his only relief.
He wonder what's the point to doing this?

There's a dream in my brain
That just won’t go away
It has been stuck there since it came
A few nights ago
I’m standing on a bridge
In the town where I lived
As a kid with my mom and my brothers
And then the bridge disappears
And I’m standing on air
With nothing holding me
And I hang like a star
Fucking glow in the dark
For all those starving eyes to see
Like the ones we’ve wished on.......

The dream represents the source of his loneliness and despair.
He doesn't have the support of his family anymore to help him get through.
Actually the dream reveals why he is feeling everything he is feeling?

But then we he gets to part where he says.....

And I hang like a star
Fucking glow in the dark
For all those starving eyes to see
Like the ones we’ve wished on...

Here the song takes on a whole new direction as
He reflects on his childhood and memories of wishing on stars with his family.
This allows him to realize the love and support from his family
is still there. So he ponders.....

But now I’m confused
Is this death really you?
Do these dreams have any meaning?
No, no, I think it's more like a ghost
That's been following us both
Something vague that we're not seeing
Something more like a feeling

Upon pondering he realized, that his family has not abandoned him.
And it's possible, that, they are both (him & his family)
really just dealing with unresolved childhood issues and dysfunction.
That the attached emotions have been clouding his perception.
His becoming aware
of this pattern. (block to his happiness)
