Steely Dan – Green Earrings Lyrics 3 years ago
This has nothing to do with actual jewels or theft or anything material. The lyrics speak to a \'love lost\' and what takes away or has left from the affair or relationship.\n "I must take what I see..." - I remember, The look in your eyes\nI don\'t mind"\n\nThe GREEN EARRINGS are a metaphor for the bitter-sweet parting and loss. It\'s the tangible memory piece in the protagonist\'s mind. \n\n\nThis fits with the Steely Dan oeuvre and vibes dealing with love\'s lost and remembrance. --> "I must take what I see"

Bel Canto – Summer Lyrics 5 years ago
My GF played and sang along to this song as her awesome way to ask me to decide to BE WITH HER. I had introduced her to Bel Canto, and she turned around and hit me over the head with this powerful heartfelt song. It still is painful to listen to this day since I Let Her Go. It is an Ironic Regret / Saudade moment in my life and THIS song nails it for me. She's gone.....

Berlin – Heartstrings Lyrics 6 years ago
Very powerful, underrated and overlooked song. Terry Nunn's voice is in top top form and the instrumentation is 80's perfect with a wonderful guitar hook. AND I am intrigued by the ambiguous lyrics that imply a strong passionate love but negate the bliss by having undercurrents of despair and looming loss. No reason for the deep misgivings either. The clue is in the "I hate that I want you" line. It would seem that there is a resentment that one is so vulnerable to another.

Such an excellent song. Lyrics alone are awesome but the plaintive melody makes it work even better. I love this song.

Cock Robin – Just When You're Having Fun Lyrics 8 years ago
I have always been deeply enchanted by this song and return to it often. It's true meaning escapes me, which is fine. I can't tell if it's about a new love disrupting one's life that was going so well or ...something else. I love the oblique lyrics and the mystery of what is going on. Musically, the oh-oh-ohs are wonderful and her vocals are horribly over the top mixing despair and elation. Quite a song!
