Somehow I feel like it's about a man who has cheated, his partner has found out but they haven't communicated, now the man is confessing to the girl. "I can't get there on my own You can't leave me here alone I’m just trying to do what’s right Oh a man ain't a man 'less he's fought the fight" -> Maybe the girl refused to communicate after finding out the man has cheated. The man wants to get a resolution, so he is "trying to do what's right" and confess to the girl about the incident. "I could never point you out Waste of space in a faceless crowd Tell me what I have to say If you know what’s right, then you’ll walk away" -> The man is explaining that he has lost attraction to her that's why he has cheated. But he knows it's wrong and don't know what to say. "One by one I've seen em fall Some just don’t show up at all I’m just here to fight the fire Oh a man ain’t a man 'less he has desire" -> The man is defending himself by saying that all men have desires and many cheats. "You tore out my heart And you threw it away The western girl with eastern eyes Took a wrong turn and found surprise awaits Now there’s nothing in the way" -> This could be seem from both sides' perspectives. From his perspective, he's saying she treated him badly (that's why he's lost attraction and cheated). From her perspective, she is saying that his cheating has hurt her badly. |

I know I'm probably very wrong but I always feel this song is what Dave wanted to say to Kurt. Considering he dedicated it to "you know who" at Wembley. "Is someone getting the best of you?" -> Someone referring to death, or...Courtney. "My head is giving me life or death, but I can't choose. I swear I'll never give in, I refuse!" -> Dave himself is struggling with suicidal thoughts, but he doesn't want to give in. "Has someone taken your faith? Its real, the pain you feel. You trust, you must confess." -> Dave is questioning Kurt. "The life, the love, you'd die to heal." -> Referring to Kurt's choice. "I'm getting tired of starting again, somewhere new." -> Nirvana was so great, he doesn't know if he can start again and feel that great again. Anyway, the beaut of this song is that everyone can have their own interpretations, and they'd all be correct... |
