Some think this song is about trees and some about politics. Even Peart said once it is about a group of trees that he saw once in a cartoon on tv. A good way to avoid judgment and criticism. In my opinion it's clearly about socialism and liberalism. What made me certain that this song has political content is "so the maples formed a union". Unions are intrinsic to political and economic system. I don't think it would be mencioned if it was only about trees chatting. |
