| I think this song is pretty simple. It's Tom's Swansong - it even says so in the song. It's his final thoughts somewhat on his life but moreso on moving forward toward his death and his acceptance of it. | |

@[kobes_son81:21749] The song goes along with the general theme of the record which is the sad state of the world, the hopelessness partially created by seeing it's probably never going to get better, and then how all of that fits into Tom accepting his own death. This one in particular I think it just kind of a meta commentary on how disheartening and crushingly awful life for a lot of people on this planet can be - the ones that feel like God or whatever that word represents has forgotten about them - "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us." You can kind of note that with the "God bless the Godforsaken." I think that middle verse is the center of the song "They play a game that they know they'll never win. Sick and tired of the world they're living in."......"Existence is just something they would rather forget." I'm not entirely sure what the "The Messiah showed up high on heroin" line is supposed to represent. Maybe that their savior is useless or maybe it's just a reference to the massive Opioid epidemic in the poor neglected part of the planet that this song is about. |
