Pink Floyd – Vegetable Man Lyrics 5 years ago
@[WorkingClassLoser:35435] you're the first person i've seen get the lyrics correct. "with a black face and a date in a little hole" i knew i wasn't hearing the band playing a different tune. seems everyone but you and i was.

Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 8 years ago
“Can you tell a green field/From a cold steel rail?”, which is a reference to Syd Barrett’s solo song, “If It’s In You”, from The Madcap Laughs album (“Hold you tighter so close/Yes you are/Please hold on to the steel rail”). the song is partly about syd, and yet has another side, thus completing the overall duality theme.
it's also a absence from within. when needing to be out-going, thoughtful of others, altruistic, etc. the protagonist is 180 degrees away from just that. when needing to be focused only on self, seizing the moment, all about me, etc. the writer is completely opposite, i.e. the former.
and from within this duality, the writer reflects on the mistakes and regrets in their past, and calls out in their moment of epiphany to their other side. obviously at a time when it should have been dominant and wasn't.
