Growing up, this is one of the songs that have stuck with me for a long time. I do not think that this is necessarily a breakup song from one lover to another after an arduous relationship. To me, it is some kind of "We'll cross paths again someday, hopefully in more meaningful terms" thing. It is as if the narrator is telling his betrothed: "Hey, I just don't think that our union is not working due to some odd reasons beyond our control.
