Hailee Steinfeld – Starving Lyrics 8 years ago
The main lyric is a metaphor: "I didn't know that I was starving 'til I tasted you."

This is comparing falling in love to hunger, when that love brings a sense of completion. When we meet someone who is absolutely the right person, we realize how much that person completes our lives.

In more object translation, this means "I didn't know I was lonely until I fell in love with you."

The second main lyric, "by the way, by the way, you do things to my body," can be interpretted two ways. The first is simply a crude sexual reference. However, this is not likely. Why would she tell her lover that they have sex? Instead, this is referring to a visceral reaction, which women in particular experience, when they fall in love. The presence of the other person, with whom they feel complete, causes sexual arousal, because the draw of the other person is so powerful.

"Yeah, something inside me's changed
I was so much younger yesterday, ye-eah"
This means that falling in love with this person has made her grow. It is a transformative experience, where she has become a more mature person by realizing the depth of what true love feels like.

"Don't need no butterflies when you give me the whole damn zoo"
This is another reference to the depth of true love. True love (a whole zoo) dwarfs the experience of "butterflies in the stomach" (lust, anticipation).
