I understand how this song could be about drugs, but I also see the song having another meaning... My interpretation of this song is about a girl cheating on a guy. "I asked if where it had been, then we started arguing"-that's talking about the man asking where his girlfriend has been and she's arguing to him to get off her back. "I'm just like the other ones, but I don't believe you think I'm dumb."-that's talking about her thinking that he is just like all her other affairs but he's not oblivious to what is going on. "Where did all the money go"-that's talking about the money she and him shared started disappearing because it's being spent on maybe her affairs or drugs. "It feels like I'm losing you"-The man feels like he's losing his girlfriend because she's being unfaithful. "We can try and laugh it off, I guess"-He's willing to forgive her for cheating on him. "But I miss how it use to be"-He misses the time when he could trust her and they had no problems. "She only looks like you when she's using me"-I think when J. says "it" in this song he's referring to a monster so I believe this lyric means that she only likes like a monster when she cheats on him. "Her silver spoon oblivion"-This refers to her drug problem. "So do you do what you do for the love of it or do you do what you do with the thought of this"-He's asking if she cheats on him because he loves her affair or does she cheat on him because of him and how he is. "Tell me, my love, was I enough"-Now he's asking if she cheated on him because he wasn't showing her enough love and wasn't caring for her right. "So I was still trying and fighting and pushing in vein, and all I did just to stop it would add to its strength"-This means that he was trying and trying to get her to be faithful to him and stop cheating on him but from all he was doing to get her to stay just made her cheat on him even more. "Because a juggernaut would not stop even with you in the way"-He's saying that he won't stop fighting even if she told him to. "When given the choice of its life or to lose, I'm not sure just which one you'd choose"-That means he doesn't know if she'd choose to stay unfaithful(its life) or to be faithful(to lose) to him. |

| J. Talked about this song on his "footnotes" album and he described this song to be about a man who finds this amazing girl and naturally wants to know everything about her so he takes control of her life which in turn makes her not as interesting anymore because she's not herself anymore, she's being controlled by this guy. Then the man recognizes his mistake of changing this girl so when he tries to tell her that he has changed her and taken control of her, she finds it sweet and thinks that the man is doing the right thing by telling her and at that point the man realizes that he has destroyed this amazing girl's personality because he couldn't prove that he has "brain washed" her and done all the damage as he could've. Amazing band and amazing complicated and deep song. | |
