I know the band has stated that this was not an "anti-God" concept album but generally the songs do have a theme running through them that deals with, for lack of a better word, "the forgotten folk." Aqualung is homeless. Cross eyed Mary is is a child prostitute. I've always seen Mother Goose as a "coming of age" song. Their are no elephants at the Circus. The schoolgirls crying about a loss of innocence perhaps? Their are perverts (chicken fancier) and strange things out in the world. Mother Goose is screaming....and he turns her loose. He is letting go of childish things. |
