| Lene Lovich – Home Lyrics | 8 years ago |
| Based on the artist's childhood and heritage, this song actually has more meaning than meets the eye. The Lene Lovich spent her early years in Detroit until her mother took her and her siblings to England to escape her mentally unstable, Serbian father. Both the mental instability and Serbian ancestry of her father are vital in understanding the hidden layers of the song. There is a word in Serbian, Rodni Kraj, used to describe a person's homeland. Yet, it is a word that means much more than any english translation as it implies a deeper connection to such a place. It's hard to describe as it does not truly translate. At the end of the day, it is more of a value than a place. Growing up, she would have had this value pushed at her by her mentally unstable father, who made her home life miserable. Combine this knowledge of her past with her confusion at the time about where she should live/where she belonged (after spending her early years in the US, her teenage years in England where her mother was from, and factoring in her Serbian ancestry) and this song becomes richer. | |
