| Has anyone ever thought that this could be about Tom`s daughter? Even though he loves her so much he is eventually going to lose her to someone else and it scares him. He want`s to be happy for her if she falls in love with some nice guy, but at the same time if he tries to turn his back he will figuratively "have a heart attack". And during the second verse he realizes he is "such a fool" for being so afraid and he begins to understand that she can take care of herself. And the "blade of ice" could mean that it has sometimes been painful to see her become more independent("cold") and that it is painful to let her grow up. These are just my thoughts, I could be totally wrong. | |
