Of course I don't know the actual song meanimg but it could be taken quite literally. Which is quite dark. "Let me show you the way through the water You don't have to explain yourself Turn your face to the stars I see you smiling" Shows a girl a lake most likely her friend, the girl floats on her back starts to talk to her and smiles. "In summer I drowned you In winter I found you As the world falls apart around me The serpent is dreaming I don't know this feeling As we break through the other side" She literally drowns the girl. She starts to feel the guilt of wrong for what she did bu the "serpent is sleeping" which means she shakes off any real responsiblity of recognition of the sin or evil of what she has done. She sees the spirit of the girl she killed which makes her want to kill herself and "break through the other side". "Walking north I can hide for a season Are you here in the dark with me? With your voice in the stars I hear you crying" Walking norh I can hide for a season, which means she left where she was so if the polics figure out it was her they would have to find her first and so she is also hiding from the police. Only in that town or state or city for a season though then she will have to move on. She asks if the girl which she killed is thers with her. She hears the pain and crying of the girl. The girl she killed. |
