@[jrw1980:20681] No offense to Michael Tighe, who said he believes it's about Rebecca Moore and Liz Fraser... But Tighe was friends with Rebecca so naturally he'd like to believe it was about her. But this is obviously about Liz Fraser. Just like some people assume Thousandfold is about Joan Wasser and missing the reference to Liz's liner note dedication to a Jeff in the Cocteau Twins Milk and Kisses, where she wrote: ...love and a thousandfold rose to buckley..' The relationship with Liz Fraser was a private one, and so we only get these little hints in their songs... like 'calf' in Morning Theft referencing the Cocteau's Calfskin Smack etc... Unless you're a CT fan, most people will miss these clues, but it's fascinating. |

Not sure what he's saying after 'should have known' but I don't think it's 'Joan' - Thousandfold is more likely a response/reference to Liz Fraser's liner note dedication in the Cocteau Twins Milk and Kisses album: 'love and a thousandfold rose to buckley' - which came out in 96. This song sounds like a lament to someone he's lost, not his girlfriend at the time. Like Morning a Theft, this is a love song for Fraser. |
