I can only speak for what I take away from the chorus. It speaks to me in my current life situation. This guy went out of his way to try and make things work in their friendship. Although it was just a friendship, he wanted to be more than friends. She did not feel the same way and her actions caused him to feel like she didn't want anything to do with him in any way. He then tried to be her friend, but she still pushed him away. He didn't want to give up, but she left him no choice but to move on.
