I read that Jon mentioned in an interview that Going For The One was inspired by the emotions and personal/physical challenges of many types of competitive sports such as white water rafting, horse racing, track & field etc. |

I read that "shining flying purple wolfhounds" was a reference to a British fighter squadron.....the Purple Wolfhounds. I find that many of Andersons lyrics may not necessarily have literal meanings....maybe not in this case....but in several other songs he seems to use certain words strictly for their sound value. We Have Heaven comes to mind. |
