Interesting, as in the first verse, I'm almost 100% sure she says "making calls on the Ile de la Cite" - I even hear this in the live versions and the radio broadcasts of the Paris Black Sessions. It also makes more sense semantically, to me at least. I'm almost 100% Elizabeth interchanged "From out of the bayous" with "From out of the gardens", as can be heard on the recently remastered and cleaned up HOLV tour shows. The mastered version I have has the second verse clearly saying "From out of the gardens" (which I think may be Versailles, or just some gardens in Paris). Not that it matters of course, as much of the lyrical content of the Cocteau Twins isn't tied to the actual words as much as the emotional feeling and energy. Either way, I'm almost 100% positive she says "making calls on the Ile de la Cite" |
