| This is the first comment I've written on the site, and I would just like to say that I only created the account specifically for the purpose of this comment. I've been a huge fan of Aurelio Voltaire for a while now. I've got all the albums, singles, recordings of concerts. Hell, I even learned a tad of Spanish to understand his Spanish songs/album. Yeah, full on fan-boy, and damn proud of it too. Anyways, back on topic. This is by far one of my favorite songs by Voltaire, namely because I can relate to it so much. In my opinion, the song is about a man who feels like he is always pretending. Who feels like his entire life is spent pretending and trying to entertain, and as a result, the things he has had to say have been increasing in explicitness until he is shunned (i.e. "This boy's been bad, Mrs. Keep him after school." "These things that so offend you"). He feels like all he is trying to do is entertain and make merry the way he knows how, and he get's shunned for it, causing him to "wish I was someone else". It seems to me that it is the tragic the tale of a man who cannot fit because of straining to make happy. | |
