This is a fun tune. So I'm not quite sure how literally the chorus of this song is supposed to be taken. "I'm havin your baby, it's none of your business." Keep in mind the person narrating is obviously not in a clear thinking state, probably half deranged. I think there needs to be more emphasis on the, "I THINK," lines. And then of course there's everyones favorite, "Oh fuck," moment towards the end of the song. It all pretty much goes downhill from there. Well, perhaps it started heading South as soon as it was put on the map. I know, I know. It's so upbeat, so it MUST be a happy story! Right? Well no. It's not. It's really, really not. If there's one thing we can learn from this incredible song? Drink responsibly. T. X |

This is probably my favorite off of Harry's new album, despite it not getting nearly enough credit as I believe it deserves. To me this song is one you'd write at 3AM, when you're alone and needing someone to listen. Eventually that someone ends up being your pen and paper and you feel slightly deranged but fuck it, because writing will always be the one you can trust not to judge you. Comfortable silence is so overrated because it's not silent at all; your demons still taunt you in the corners of your mind and the one voice you are aching to hear echoes on a loop pedal in your ears. You don't understand how something so strong can make you feel so weak; afterall, how strong are you really when you're always the one caving in? You don't want to be the weak one anymore, the one who breaks. But if you don't break, then who will? T. X |

I think this song is a bit self-explanatory, but I'll give my take on it. To me, this song tells of a complicated, forbidden love story. There is a special love that binds the two together, the kind that needs no label. The narrator expresses their frustration and sadness over this branding. The two are labeled as, "friends" when their love is too powerful to name. However, in their twisted situation, if they were to show just how Strong their love for each other was, they would run the risk of everything falling apart. Even if they were able to, no one would ever really know the true extent. "So I could take the back road, But your eyes'll lead me straight back home. And if you know me like I know you, You should love me, you should know." I could try and pretend there is nothing more between us, but I'm always going to end up needing you, and if you really loved me to the extent that I love you, you would know this. What the two have goes beyond just, "friendship." The love that binds them is more than anyone could ever know, and the narrator is tired of the branding. I feel the last bridge and chorus is the narrator questioning their lack of labels. If they're not friends, then what are they? Would a label save what they have, rather than destroy it? What they have is stronger than any friendship or ordinary love. "I know that there's a limit to everything, But my friend's won't love me like you." The narrator knows there has to be a limit somewhere in what they have, but they know it does not stop at just, "friends." |

This is such a heartbreakingly beautiful piece. I think just like any song, the meaning behind it's words really speak differently to different individuals. However, I shall give my own take. To me, 'Sign of the Times' alternates between a narrator speaking to themself and then to another. It's primarily about coming to accept the end of something or someone you love. Learning to move on from it, and realizing that It is What it is despite how difficult it is to contine on. "Just stop your crying It's a sign of the times." I believe this repeats as words the narrator tells him/herself, as well as words the narrator speaks to another. Its the frustration of trying to move on even though you can't. It's telling yourself, "Suck it up and move on, this is how it has to be and you can't change it," but still feeling grief. "You can't bribe the door on your way to the sky You look pretty good down here But you ain't really good." Fairly straight forward. You can't keep putting off the inevitable; things may look fine, but they really aren't. "We never learn, we've been here before Why are we always stuck and running from The bullets, the bullets?" We've overcome things before, we can push through it. Why are we so afraid of it, and why do we keep trying to escape it? "Just stop your crying Have the time of your life Breaking through the atmosphere Things look pretty good from here." Here the narrator is trying to remind themselves to look at the good things in life. If you instead focused on living your life, you'd realize things aren't as bad as they appear. "Remember, everything will be alright We can meet again somewhere Somewhere far away from here." This may be the end for now, but maybe someday, somehow, somewhere, we can find eachother again, and be happy together. "We don't talk enough We should open up Before it's all too much." Once again, pretty straight forward I'd say. Too many words left unsaid. Some might think this song primarily is about a romantic relationship, but I don't believe this is necessarily the case. I see it as more of just an end to any kind of love. Personally, I think of my mother, who is very sickly. It's taken us both many years to realize there are certain things we cannot change. We need to live our lives and be happy, before its too late. This is a long one, I apologize. Just my thoughts. T. x |
