Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics 8 years ago
His monologue varied from venue to venue. Clues there are difficult, how his comments continued changing.

He was 11 years old when this adventure took place. There may have been awakenings.

He writes in cursive, outrageously. My hunch is Sufjan S. does not self-identify as gay, yet acknowledges the state of his heart back then, what that felt like. We were in love.

I see the wasp on the length of my arm. He says this immediately after admitting he was culpable in his friend getting bit 7 times. Very complex. I wonder if the wasp is a symbol of his mother's influence, his teasing caused hurt, in the way his mother caused such hurt.

Mostly I hear how he honors his feelings about something most most parents would dishonor, A boy kissed another boy.

Sufjan Stevens – Drawn to the Blood Lyrics 8 years ago
My take on this song is Daniel's message. This is the Biblical Daniel and his message about judgment and liberation, to keep the faith, because God's care will take care Sufjan in the end. He mentions God's grace. It keeps him from stopping at the Holiday Inn, or from driving the car into the canyon.
My take on the abusive elements is how without his faith, he'd likely do himself in, that living with the memory of his mother's abuse when she was alive, and now living with the ghost of those memories consumed him. In his mind, and in his heart he always return to her, how she never showed him the kind of love a boy deserves from Mom, instead how she abandoned and hurt him.
