There are all these You Tube videos that take unrelated tunes ("Paint it Black", "House of the Rising Sun") and combine them with Vietnam war footage. When I first saw one I remember wondering how many would use "Harvest" because it cuts all symbolism and directly points out being at the top of the stairs, leaving a crying mother, boarding a plane and what awaited. The promise of men of all colors united by common doom, doing what couldn't be done, growing to adulthood on the knowledge that being asked to commit everything - beyond one's ability - can be too much to ask when you realize giving all you had was just a plan forsaken by s change in the policy you agreed to embrace with your life. |
