The word man uses words. Words are hidden so that is why we have to search for them -- the right words. Say it one way, and then another way until the right words are found -- to articulate the real message. But a lot of people don't dwell in the depths of working out how to perfectly express deeper messages. I know it annoys you, but this is me -- I'm sorry, but not really. I imagine the song lyrics are literally from an actual interaction and we probably will never know the context. But I'm going to try and figure out a way of abstracting the essential message in a way that removes context and yet carries profound significance. ....... see ya in a week or two. |

I know the other interpretations are more correct. But .... Picture your son in a hospital bed, kept alive by a ventilator and I.V. The doctors are suggesting pulling the plug. He was self destructive for so long, and this is the final outcome. For years, many people tried to help him, everyone had hope. Now, he will almost certainly die if the ventilator is removed. If he doesn't die, he will probably never be the same due to brain damage. But if given more time, there is a very slight chance he could be okay. When do you let go? This is the part that resonates: Staring at a cold little hand Reading fault lines Of a shell of a man You were waiting for a word from above Wouldn't you know it No answer ever did come But other parts of the song also fits with the "crowing for repair" and "you couldn't keep him there." But the fact that this song also applies to unrequited love is very eye opening for me. |
