In 1968, a group of pledges to the Alpha Pi Alpha fraternity at Tuskegee University were hazed. With little to no training experience, they were entered into this talent contest where they had to play music and sing impromptu. The initiated brothers watched them intently knowing they would fail. The group not only won the contest hands down, but went on to produce several platinum albums and win several Grammy\'s. This group later became known as the Commodores.\n\nBut there\'s more to the story. The lead singer of the Commodores constantly feuded with the band because they wanted to play up-tempo music that was funky and snappy, and he wanted to sing slow, romantic ballads. The feud would eventually lead to him splitting from the band and going solo. That lead singer\'s name was Lionel Richie. And you all know what he did. |

This song pretty much describes what\'s going on these days in terms of racism and social justice. |

The funny thing is, the title of this album is called "Heart Shaped World" and he sings about a world that is anything but heart shaped. His songs are all about broken hearts and love affairs gone wrong. |

Not sure if she's talking about her brother or a lover or close friend who died, but it's definitely about death and one day, she will die too and be reunited with whoever this person is. |

I agree with the consensus here. He's in a vibrant city (New York is definitely vibrant) and wants to get out and explore it. The "girl" is the city calling him to come out and explore. |

| Bruce Springsteen – Glory Days Lyrics

This song is all about the high school cheerleaders and jocks hitting their 30s and their working in little offices, selling cars, or managing fast food joints and struggling to make a middle class living. All the while dreaming of their "glory days" when they were in high school having the time of their lives.
Meanwhile all the math and science nerds have gone on to make big money and probably own the dealerships, office buildings, and fast food joints. |
