| @[Topkat555:27770] I think the same. When I heard this song back in 1971 it was generally accepted that it was about heroin addiction and withdrawal (not feelin too good myself). I don't know what Mason had in mind, but Traffic members at the time were heavily involved in drugs. | |

Like all good poetry, the meaning of the song can be taken on several levels according to the personal experience we bring to the brilliant music and lyrics. When I first heard this I was a teen in the 60's and I took it for a song depicting real life tragedy of sailors at sea who were lost, and found some actual salvation. 45 years later - as a sailor of life I have - metaphorically speaking- foundered many times, lost at sea. I have recovered on some distant shore, just glad to be alive, still here and having joy in life wherever I am right now. I constantly have to work and strive for my own salvation in this life, and I am not holding my breath for the next. heh. peace out. |
