Bob Dylan – Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands Lyrics 8 years ago
By far the most gorgeous love song ever written. I cannot help but think of this girl whom I've fallen head over heels for when I hear this song. The chord progressions, which picture a gentle, bright sunset, complement the astonishing set of lyrics.

I view this as a song about a person whom the singer is falling in love with. Obviously, Dylan wrote this for Sara. But this can be applied to anybody. This girl is literally the only thing that comes to mind when I listen to this.

The incredible similes/metaphors that describe the girl are absolutely astonishing.

"With your mercury mouth in the missionary times"
"And your basement clothes and your hollow face"
"And your gentleness now, which you just can't help but show"
"And your saintlike face and your ghostlike soul"

Wow! (That last one always gives me chills. Absolutely amazing.)

The chorus of the song, which stays the same the entire time, presents the singer showing his love to this girl. Dylan once again uses magnificent lyrics to portray the emotions for her:

"My warehouse eyes"
"My Arabian Drums"

I always associate warehouse eyes with human nature. Warehouses tend to be very, very big. It also happens to be that the pupils of humans dilate considerably when they look at someone they are attracted to. Dylan is saying that his eyes are growing at the sight of her. A huge compliment.

While many say that the Arabian Drums are associated with his music, I always view them as human nature as well; the beat of a drum can be resembled as the beat of a human. After all, Pink Floyd did it to open and close the Dark Side of the Moon. The drums can resemble his beating heart; whenever she is near, his heart flourishes. We all have experienced that at some point in time. As for the drums being Arabian, perhaps it has something to do with Arabian culture? Perhaps Arabian culture has a romantic view on love? This part I still have yet to figure out.

Leaving his eyes and beating heart at the gate of her soul closes the chorus. He is asking her if he should invest in loving her now, or later. It all depends on when they are both ready. He keeps asking and asking; the last stance transitions into a harmonica solo, which signifies she was then willing and able to accept his love. How romantic and beautiful!

Marry the one person who comes to mind when listening to this song. This goes out to the most beautiful girl I've seen in the world. I'll see you soon.

Roger Waters – Wait For Her Lyrics 8 years ago
By far my favorite song from ITtLWRW?. Very honest, poetic, hopeful, and emotional all at once.

This song was based on a poem by Mahmoud Darwish. Listening to this song, I feel it describes the pain, nervousness, and blues associated with waiting for a lover. Waiting can mean many things here; it could mean waiting for a simple date for all we know. But the tone of the lyrics (and the music by Waters) suggests that one is waiting for a girl to love him back. The song reassures and gives advice to the listener, with light and frothy lyrics:

"With seven pillows laid out on the stair
The scent of womens' incense fills the air
Be calm, and wait for her"

and

"Serve her water before wine
Do not touch her hand
Let your fingertips rest at her command"

And while it gives the song a sense of hope, the almost tragic-sounding backdrop serves as what brains love to do in these scenarios: think of the worst. The drop from G to E minor by the electric guitar throughout the song suggest the mood swings from hopeful to hopeless. Love is a crazy emotion, and things can go from good to bad (and vice versa) quickly.

The last stance is one of my favorites. It reminds the listener that waiting to love someone may be difficult, but there is a promise the listener made with themselves: to never lose hope.

"And as the echo fades from that final fusillade
Remember the promises you made"

The promise is obvious; the promise of the listener to continue loving the girl. It doesn't leave. And the final fusillade is all but simply another change in emotions. They can be good or bad, but anyone (such as myself) who has experienced a bombardment of emotions knows how to connect to this final line.

The Beach Boys – Forever Lyrics 8 years ago
Goodbyes are always the hardest when it is with somebody you love. There is a reason why I believe that goodbye is one of the saddest words in the English language.

On the contrary, forever is a word that can be very optimistic; and this song is no exception. Dennis is singing about how he will never not love the girl he is singing about; that forever, he will love her smile, her laughter, her presence, her personality. Towards the end, he sings about going away; whether it be for a trip, a semester overseas, or even something as dark as death, he reminds the girl that during those times, he will continue to love her.

Such a beautiful love song. There is a reason why Brian viewed this as one of the best things Dennis has ever written.

Coldplay – A Rush of Blood to the Head Lyrics 8 years ago
I feel like this song serves as a metaphor for a broken man trying to erase the past; we are never made clear what this "past" is, but whatever it was, it was evidently damaging to the narrator. It could have been:

-The loss of a loved one, girlfriend, wife, etc.
-PTSD from war
-Psychological trauma (abuse, imprisonment, etc.)
-A crime that the narrator committed

Regardless of what happened at this place, he burns it down; he wants to erase the past and forget about the place that gave him so sour meaning and memories. "Buying a gun, starting a war" implies that the narrator enters despair as he tries to erase the memories; as much as purchasing a violent weapon to erase places, things, even people, from his past.

The chorus describes the horror of a relative as they watch the narrator crumble under the weight of his own thoughts. It could be the narrator's significant other, friend, sibling, or anyone he would have close connections with.

The song serves as a reminder of how we wish to erase the past of things that brought us pain and misery; this song takes it a step further by implying a person going through trauma and despair while doing so.
