The old man wants to move back and not forward. The young man wants to move forward but not back. Tyler talks about the limbo of the two being dark, hopeless, and terrifying and "It must be tonight" meaning the night he is writing this song he is in this limbo. This song is about Tyler seeing no future and no joy in the past. It must be tonight turns from his point of reference to surcoming to his suicidal thoughts, "it must be tonight". Once again Tyler is calling out to God and/or someone to Save him tonight. |
