Pink Floyd – Outside the Wall Lyrics 8 years ago
@[Dojindog:18836] I like your interpretation, but you are forgetting probably the most important brick in the wall: His overly protective mother who shields him off from any external dangers. I actually think that his father's death may have caused his mother to be overly protective, and this has played a bigger role on the main character's life than his father dying.

More generally, I believe over-protectionism plays an important role in this song, not only by this mother, but by society in general. This comes back in many songs, for instance in "Another brick in the wall 2", where the teachers are overprotective and obsessively controlling.

All these things are metaphors, I believe, for our society. Our lives are increasingly being dominated by fear. Modern technology has made us aware of all the possible dangers and everything that goes wrong in the world, which many people project on their social world. Parents are scared to let their children play outside, society is being controlled by fear.

In my eyes, this song is still extremely relevant!
