There is a large amount of heritage behind us. The consumptive habits of humans fall into old predictable patterns, but soon we are going to have to face the destruction and problems that our usual ways have brought. These systems are so much larger than any of us, they are all consuming. The aggregate effects of our consumptive ways of life are becoming clear. Our normal ways of doing things are bringing about problems like never before. Climate disaster, and unrest are becoming increasingly common. "The shows have started" and these disasters come at the cost of the promises we have been made about the future. Society cannot go on without changing. It isn't going to be as smooth as we in the first world have been led to believe. The impending problems are large and daunting and it feels hopeless to struggle against. It feels depressing. But wait, We are the ones alive on the planet at this pivotal moment. The future is lost without us. The time in which we exist makes our impact critical. There has never been a better time to stand up and make yourself heard. There has never been a more important time to make yourself known. |

@[stationarytraveller:18719] I think this is correct, except for the middle verse. I think the lyrics are better read with a colon. "Inside plays a lullabye: Slurred voice over children's cries On the inside" The image of the (perceived) lonely person in the window causes the narrator to reflect on his own damage. He is giving us a subtle glimpse of what gave the emotional scar that he alludes to in the following verse. The lullabye is not a pleasant song, but alludes to the soundscape that the narrator had when going to bed as a child. The narrator is recounting his experience of going to sleep among other crying children. The caretaker is drunk, hence the slurred speech. |
