I believe Gerard is saying he is so afraid for today's teenagers, not of them. As a teen myself, I can easily say we are being told how to act, ordered what to think, and drugged until we behave a certain way (ADHD meds and anti-depressants). We are not allowed to have a mind of our own and if we do we are in huge trouble. As someone said before me, we are being shaped into the perfect citizens, but we are not clay. We are human beings with our own opinions, our own outlooks on life, our own dreams, and our own goals! To rebel, we wear dark clothes and less makeup; we speak our dark little minds and share our violent thoughts and sketch out our nightmares. We scream and yell in our music to let out frustrations, venting like heck as lyrics that are every bit as deep and meaningful as the deepest ocean cavern and we do not use autotune. (I'm not putting anyone who likes autotune down, but honestly, I hate it) We are also labeled 'Emo' or 'Goth' or 'Punk' for it. That might be true for some of us, but not all of us. And I absolutely love this song, it's so catchy!!

First off, I cannot believe no one has commented on this song yet! It is so awesome to listen to and I love the meaning, or at least my interpretation anyway. I believe this song is about being with the one you love. He gives an avid description of what is going on in the world, all the corruption, hate, and bullying. Then, he describes 'no matter what is happening out there, it's their problem. The can wage wars, but the will never touch us!.' In a way, he is challenging anyone to oppose him. To say he is a bad person with male intent for rebelling and following his heart. "I don't agree, now am I the enemy?" He is offering his hand to the one he loves so they can run away from it all together, even if it is for just one night. Together, they could find a hideaway where they can comfort each other from their nightmares society caused and hide from everyone who means harm. "I am happy. I ran away with her/him and we are in love and safe from you. Now am I your enemy?"

I believe this song is about the mental struggle of losing everything you once were. In the song, he lost almost all of his loved ones (to death or because of his own actions) and is lying to the ones who still linger with him, including himself. He is hiding how he truly feels. He feels as if he has lost his home and his heart is broken way past repair. He may meet someone new, someone that he could love, but he is too broken to love her/him or anyone else for that matter. One way or another, he has fought and fought and fought for a cause he does not believe in and saw himself tear apart at everyone around him because of it. There is a good chance that cause is society its self. He is trying to pick up the pieces of his old life, but they are too far gone. There is nothing to salvage; nothing to repair in his mind or his heart. This is his hell on Earth.

I believe this song is about finally being free. Not physically free, but free from the doubts holding you back and the rude and harmful comments people make when you are not like them. It is about getting rid of the rules of society and being happy. Gerard is telling us it's okay to be who you are, you are you and there is nothing on this planet or the next that can change that, so why be restrained? Why let someone who has never met you and knows absolutely nothing about you when you could be happy? Happiness is all about being free and being free is all about not letting yourself be slowed or held back by anyone or anything. You are you and if no one else loves you for it (which I may not know you, but I do anyway), at least you should. Love yourself. Be happy. Be free.

@[earthsick:18675] I believe you are completely right. He is so opposed to society and he is trying to fight it. He is telling the one he loves 'If I ever become like them, change me back and if I cannot be fixed, end me.' And I think that ^^ is about to become my senior quote.
