Honestly, I think this song is about the rigorous parts of a relationship. This guy, the one who's singing, he's made a mess of himself and his life. That's the blood on his bedsheets. He can't seem to wipe away the mistakes that he's made. Then he meets someone, who pulls him away from the bed. They laugh, they dance, they cry, and he pretends to be happy for her. She cleans him off. Then, he falls apart again. He tried to be happy, but he was lying to her and himself, and he fell down. Another knife is in his hands, and he feels as if people would dance to the tune of his death. At the very least, it's better off that way |

Ever since I've heard this song, I've thought that it's about trying to keep the ones you love. Being there for them, trying to be happy for them. "The light behind your eyes" is the life, the optimism, the happiness someone holds inside them. He's saying he will do whatever he can to keep the person happy and alive. But, when he "loses the fight" and he's "here no longer" she must remember to "always burn as bright" |
