I think this songs is about how hardships change your perspective of life and make living worth more to you. The joker is looking for a way out of a society ignorant of others woes, while the thief who's been caught stealing is struggling to survive on his own. It creates an interesting conflict of viewpoints with a Joker tired of people taking things for granted from him and a thief who knows their value that he can stop. The howling winds, riders, and wildcat represent the conflicting notions. Of course, it could be any number of other thing. |
