| A Great Big World – Say Something Lyrics | 8 years ago |

First of all, listen to the Jacob Banks Mahogany Sessions rendition on YouTube. It has the power to change lives. The lyrics are the same but rearranged. Like everyone else, I can relate to the lyrics. There are a few lines that others did not mention so I wanted to add an interpretation of my own, one that I think fits perfectly. It's about the reminiscing that occurs after a very promising relationship ends way too early. At the beginning, both people were hopeful and excited. Then the protagonist makes mistakes and pushes the other person away. He/she is new to relationships and happens to meet the perfect person when they're not ready. Chances are the person was nervous and over-compensated or played games, therefore the person acted prideful and turned the other person off. After much reflection, the person realizes that the loss was significant and wishes that they knew what they were doing. He/she apologizes for their mistakes and for not getting to them and destroying their initial hope. They reach out, possibly multiple times, and are met with silence. The person is willing to move on but is looking for any reason to continue to hope. He/she is desperate for one more chance but realizes that it will probably never come and that the loss will linger without bounds. |
