I'm surprised no one who likes this song doesn't talk about "You hang around for a living somewhere between the land and the sky" I perceive as this as a story our main character a sentient scarecrow ,and I would like to believe that our narrator is a character a third character as well ."I wonder if they ever wonder or will ever wonder"our narrator wonders about what do animals and scarecrow think about existing.humans like to ask "why are we here on earth?" And he's asking do crows do the same."Oh,Scarecrow Maybe the wind knowsWhether you wonder Who's calling your name." I'm not sure what to think of this or of farmer Jims humming maybe he's thinking of what our narrator is thinking as well "Scarecrow Maybe the wind knows Whether you wonder If you are to blame." This song suggest that the reason why the scarecrow are around because of him and that he doesn't scare them he attracts them."Mother Earth's love whispered to me (and it wasn't her fault) Real is a feeling and feeling is real All of you are flowing through me But you wouldn't know how to fathom or feel When the wind blows The wind knowsThe wind knows." This scarecrow is feeling nihilism he doesn't like his purpose of scaring the crows and doesn't feel he does a great job even if mother nature tells him it's alright. "Saving the grain of your golden domain Without even reasoning why The crows seem to know where you need them to go Igniting a spark in their minds so they circle and fly Fly." he rebels in anger against the birds for ruining his comfortable life I can imagine him swinging and batting at them fighting back but all they do is attack him and fly and the third character would then find him and ask the question "You hang around for a living Blown in the wind like a pinned butterfly Monarch of ever forgivingSome of us wonder if you want to die Would you want to die?" This story could end sad and just have a sad,injured, ,nihilistic, and suicidal Mr.scarecrow hang but because of the title "hymn" which I'm normally used to praise something for religion I can imagine our narrator/3rd character taking Mr.Scarecrow inside patching up and relieving his duties of scaring scarecrow and he'll find his purpose being cozy as a household item his new golden domain of home. |
